TAZEWELL COUNTY NOTICE OF PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO TAZEWELL COUNTY TAX LEVIES TO REDUCE REAL PROPERTY TAXES AND IMPOSE AN ANNUAL AUTOMOBILE LICENSE FEE OF TWENTY DOLLARS ($20.00) PER VEHICLE PER YEAR
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, pursuant to Sections 46.2-752, 58.1-3007, and 58.1-3321 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as amended, that the
Tazewell County Board of Supervisors
will hold a public hearing on August 7, 2018 at the County Administration Building, located at 197 Main Street, Tazewell, Virginia 24651, at 6:30 PM, or as soon thereafter as may be heard, to consider public comment regarding a proposed Ordinance to Amend Tazewell County Tax Levies to Reduce Real Property Taxes and Impose an Annual Automobile License Fee of Twenty Dollars ($20.00) Per Vehicle Per Year.
EFFECTIVE RATE DECREASE: The Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County, Virginia proposes to adopt a tax rate of $0.575 per $100 of assessed value. The difference between the current tax rate and the proposed tax rate would be a decrease of $0.025 per $100 of assessed value, or 4.17 percent. This difference will be known as the “tax rate decrease.” Individual property taxes may, however, decrease at a percentage greater than or less than the above percentage depending upon the new assessed value of the property.
In conjunction with the real property tax decrease, the Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County, Virginia proposes to increase the automobile license fee to Twenty Dollars ($20.00), to be paid on an annual basis. This automobile license fee will not apply to Tazewell County residents who have automobile licenses from a town within Tazewell County.
Any person wishing to speak at the hearing should appear at the time and place listed above to be heard. The Board may enact the Ordinance immediately following the public hearing or may defer action to a later meeting held at the same location.
